If you have a question or concern, ask. We're a friendly group that enjoys integrating new people into our community. If you're not having fun, there's no point in role-playing and we'd like you to stay and role-play with us.
If you are not having fun, please tell one of the Council! We are happy to consider and possibly include suggestions that will benefit the site or increase your enjoyment of being here because it will not only benefit you but everyone who comes on to our Pern. For site-wide or specific suggestions, PM one of the Council or post on the Ideas and Improvements board.
2. This is a PG-13 site.
That being said, while Dragons will rise, and riders will get involved, please "fade to black" on any scenes with sexual activities involved. If you want to role-play these scenes, please do so off-site. This is part of the TOS of proboards. Thanks.
Although fighting is possible and sometimes knives can be drawn over serious or petty matters, please keep the references to blood and gore to a minimum. "He slashed at Terin's abdomen" should be sufficient to suggest what is happening. This will be true of the Narration during Threadfall too.
3. The Usual
The usual rules of SPAMMING, FLAMING, GOD MODING, and POWER PLAYING also apply. If you are not clear on what any four of these mean site message someone and we will define them for you. We assume most people have read the definitions on other sites.
4. Swearing
Only Pernese swearing (ie - shards, shell, fardles etc.) allowed, IC and OOC. Word filters are set so any swear word should come out as a Pernese one. Just be careful.
5. Accounts
Although you're welcome to make as many characters as you want, please only put three of them per account at maximum. This is because it can confuse others if, for example, your profile name is "Herbert" and you're posting for six characters, none of which are named Herbert.
Ideally, only one character should be on an account; however, I know some people simply don't want to bounce from one account to the other. The new version of Proboards makes it exceedingly easy to move from one account to the other, so following this rule should be simple.
1. Searched / Impression
Being Searched and Impression are not guaranteed on this site. If you are not active as a Holdbrat / Holdfolk, you will not be Searched. Don't let this scare you, it's easy to be Searched, activity is the key. A few posts in a Hold will help establish the character and get you into the Pern mindset easier.
If you are not an active Candidate, you will not Impress. Sometimes, even if you are active, you will be left to Stand. This does not mean we do not like you, it is because we attempt to simulate a truer version of life on Pern here. Sometimes Candidates simply do not Impress. Chances are you will eventually Impress, just not guaranteed to Impress on the first try.
Weyrbrats will automatically be Searched at twelve Turns. However, they are not guaranteed to Impress either.
If you create a character and do not want them to Impress, please indicate this during the character creation. A PM to one of the Council will be sufficient. If you create a character and do not want a specific color, please indicate this during the character creation or sometime prior to the Hatching. This will not mean you're guaranteed to get the colors you do want, only that you will not get the colors you do not want. For example, if you do not want to Impress a blue, you will not Impress a blue but this will not guarantee that you will Impress a bronze instead.
2. Adoption
Every character in the Adoption Center can be adopted. Please adopt them!
To adopt a character, copy/paste their profile from the adoption center to the "Profiles to Review” board. You're welcome to add information to them if you want to but some of the basic information provided needs to stay with the character. Here is a "How to Adopt” thread with the complete instructions.
Some require Admin permission. PM one of the Council for permission. If they are a Major Position, the Admin reserves the right to take them from you if you are not active. See the Activity section below for more details. It's very easy to stay active.
3. Character Creation
We have a list of Positions Available that might inspire you to create a new, unique character. You are welcome to create any kind of character provided there is room/availability for said character position. Please, create them! Positions available are listed here. Please do not create and/or play any character who has not been approved. We do not want, for example, random gold riders showing up when they have not been approved. This will lead to possible deletion of your RP posts due to your character not being approved.
1. Active / Major Positions
"Active" means posting at least twice a month. We really appreciate the activity because it makes the site thrive. Even minor plots and solo quests are a great way to continue the storyline.
Major Positions must be active. They may require more integration than other individuals. To more easily integrate your character into our Pern, we may require you to answer a short "meat and potatoes" questionnaire. See the Positions Available thread for specific Major Positions.
Logging on without posting does not count as active. It counts as logging on, nothing more.
2. Inactivity
If your account is inactive for more than six months without explanation you will get a warning. After eight you are subject to deletion. To prevent this, post on the Leave of Absence board to tell us when you will return. If you are absent for six months longer than your LOA states, your characters are subject to archiving. This will cause you to lose all your positions and ranks. If your character is archived and you are absent for seven years or longer, your characters are subject to deletion, and will be considered “dead” IC. If you return after that point, you will be asked to create a new character.
3. Deletion
When an account is deleted, characters may become Adoptables unless otherwise notified. It is your responsibility to tell us if you do not want your characters to become adoptables. Be aware that they will be transferred from their current Weyr and may die if they do not become Adoptables. As Adoptables they are retrievable if you come back, provided no one has adopted them... if they die, they are not retrievable.
