Time Reference: Directly after The Weyrleader's office - Lunchtime
When Kerrin's tears of relief started, K'ivan waited until they subsided. He had the patience Kerrin needed until she felt ready to leave the privacy of the chamber, and reassured her of her safety once again. Whether or not her husband or Lord Holder Feytolian came to "claim" her back remained in the future. The Weyrleader did not speak to Kerrin of such things. For now, K'ivan intended to act as though Kerrin had a permanent place in his Weyr.
The battered woman reminded him how fortunate he was to live at the Weyr where they did not tolerate such things. K'ivan cherished his life, and he could not think of any other situation he'd rather be or anyone else he'd rather share his life save Klissi. Kerrin may be the assistant Klissi needs. She'll be able to focus more of her attention on training Kitti then too. As her weyrmate of course he supported her emotionally but their duties to the Weyr differed.
Now with the hope to ease his weyrmate's burden, K'ivan led the small group across the Weyrbowl, weaving a path through the other scattered weyrfolk going about their daily business. Since the mid-day meal was in progress, most of them were headed in that direction. K'ivan greeted them with "hellos" and nods. The Weyrbowl was not as busy as other times during the day. Nor as busy as it would be tomorrow when K'ivan conducted Threadfall practice.
K'ivan focused on keeping track of his guests and allowed his mind to wander to various plans for the next sevenday. Despite the sudden leadership change, dragonmen must fly, and that meant in less than a fortnight, K'ivan had to lead the Weyr's wings into the sky against the Menace. A veteran Flight Second, and former Wingleader, he had experience leading practice, but never the entire Weyr against Threadfall itself. True, he'd been the leader of the Guardians for several Turns, and during that time the organization grew from a handful of people at the Weyr to multiple groups across the Western continent. But this, this was different. A sudden chill ran through K'ivan.
Trust me. Baizynth reassured K'ivan. We will face it together. I know what to do. We will lead them. They will listen. Thread will die. K'ivan smiled, his features softening as the warmth of his dragon's emotions bathed him in their confidence and the surge of adrenaline that his dragon felt washed through him. All of it combined to strengthen his resolve and wash away his fears. You're right, Bai. We've overcome every other challenge we've faced. We will overcome this one too. Yes, I know.
