Name: K’del
Rank: Brownrider
Age: 33
Dragon: Brown Franketh
Fire-lizards: Blue Flotsam, Green Jetsam
Other Animal Companions:
Appearance: K’del is 5’11”, 145lbs. He has shoulder length sandy blonde hair that is generally parted on the side. He has hazel blue eyes and a winning smile. He keeps active, making him slim yet muscular. He has some scars from his life before impressing Franketh on his back that he doesn’t like to talk about, and on his left cheek that he claims is from his impression of his firelizards. He favors earthly colors of brown, orange, dark gold, and tan.
Personality: K’del comes off as carefree and laid back. He likes to enjoy life today and not worry about tomorrow. He likes to drink and gamble, and is often in debt to someone for one or the other, or both. He apprenticed into a craft, but spent a lot of time with different Harper's and picked up a lot about the craft. In his off time, he will often take on odd jobs, usually transporting a person or goods that border on illegal, no questions asked. He also deals in information, collecting any and all tidbits he picks up, keeping them in a journal, written in a code of his own making. He takes payment in makes, information, or favors, whichever he thinks will be most useful. He keeps a small network of informants, but is always looking to add to it. He prefers the company of the ladies, but isn’t picky in the heat of a flight. He doesn’t like getting attached to anyone or making serious commitments beyond friendship. He is friendly with the other members of his fighting wing, but wouldn’t necessarily call them friends.
K'del has a ruthless side as a result of all the trauma he went through as a child. He is distrustful and suspicious of people, especially those in leadership. He lives by the code “Trust but verify” in most of his dealings. The number of people who really know him can be counted on one hand. But if his trust is gained, he is a loyal friend, willing to risk life and limb, but at times can be overprotective. He hates bullies and is willing to confront them regardless of rank. He doesn't have much of a temper, also living by the phrase “Don't get mad, get even.”
History: Kassidel was born in a small cothold beholden to Southern Hold. He always had a love of music, and was encouraged by the local harper to pursue it as a craft. When he was 8, he and his family traveled by ship to the northern continent to visit family. The ship was attacked by pirates, who killed the passengers and ravaged the ship. Kassidel survived by jumping overboard and clinging to a piece of wreckage. He was found the next day by smugglers who came up on the wreck and, impressed by his tenacity to live, rescued him.
Kassidel was enslaved by the smugglers and was made to do dirty, menial work. He attempted to escape a few times, which came to naught but beatings. Since running didn't work, he came up with a different plan. He used the little Harper training to help one the band, a failed apprentice, with entertaining at night. He became good enough, and trustworthy enough to be allowed to go to the local hold and/or port and perform to earn marks, and eavesdrop on conversations. Wherever they went, he took every opportunity to visit the local Harper to gain more knowledge and information. He didn't share everything he learned, just enough to keep them happy and keep his freedom. It was here that he learned the value of informants and started building his network.
When Kassidel was 17, he was in the market at Southern Hold, gathering information, when he was grabbed by a dragonrider, but instead of accusing him of anything, he was searched. Morzen, the leader, didn't want to lose him, but he pointed out how much more useful he would be with a dragon. Her greed got the better of her and she consented, but he had to continue to work for them mostly providing information. Kassidel became K’del a turn later when he impressed brown Franketh. The grueling Weyrling training was nothing compared to his life with the smugglers, and his slack appearance and confrontations with other weyrlings and riders got him the reputation of being lazy and a troublemaker.
During Weyrling training, he kept his distance from the others, not finding any of them interesting or worth his time; except one. Samarah, a healer who had a fascination with poisons. He started asking her questions about her plants and what they could do. His genuine interest got her to open up a little, and she became the closest thing to a friend that he ever had. He started helping her with whatever she needed.
After graduation, K’del continued to help Sam, going with her on her expeditions, and finding things she couldn’t get through normal channels. He put his underground connections to good use, while continuing to expand his network. Morzen became more demanding, wanting more from him than he wanted to give. When she threatened to tell the Weyrleadership about him and what he'd been doing for her if he didn't help, he agreed to meet her. He left in the early evening and didn't return until the early morning hours, looking bruised and beaten. There was a cut on his left cheek, a hastily bandaged gash on Franketh’s right leg, and two firelizard hatchlings cradled in his arms. He told anyone who asked that he came across the hatchlings being attacked by a wherry, and he and Franketh intervened. Soon after, the incidents of piracy in the area dropped dramatically.
K’del was one of the few people who stood by Sam when she was wrongly accused of killing a wingleader. He tried to defend her, but wasn’t taken seriously as he was known to be friends with her. After her conviction and sentencing, he requested a transfer to White Sands. It was not only approved, but the Weyrleader gave him a glowing review, though the transfer was delayed due to the mysterious disease at White Sands.
Age:15
Appearance: Franketh is a deep dark brown rippled with russet around his legs. His wing fingers are dark brown with golden brown sails. He has a scar on his right leg.
Personality: Franketh is the logical and rational side of the pair. He is calm under pressure, and tries to make his rider see reason, especially when he lets his emotions take control. He offers counterpoint to try to keep K’del from doing something foolish. He doesn’t always succeed, and ends up helping his rider if only to try to mitigate the trouble he’d get into.
Age:11
Appearance: Green with veins of blue running through her body and wing sails. Striations of lighter greens and darker blues can be seen in the light and at different angles. It can be difficult to tell if she is green with blue coloring or blue with green coloring.
Personality: Flotsam is a kleptomaniac. She will take anything that catches her eye. She especially loves shiny metal objects like pendants and rings. Her habit doesn’t help K’del’s reputation any, and he constantly has to find ways of returning her treasures without the owners knowing. She is wary of others, only trusting her clutch brother, K’del, Franketh, and Samarah and brown Valtinth. She likes to keep to the shadows, remaining hidden. She can stay still for long periods of time to keep from being noticed, and moves with a practiced silence. When with K’del, she will hide in one of the pockets of her jacket or tunic.
Age:11
Appearance: Medium blue with veins of green running through her body and wing sails. Striations of lighter blues and darker greens can be seen in the light and at different angles. It can be difficult to tell if he is blue with green coloring or green with blue coloring.

He likes to go to places with high traffic such as the kitchens or lower caverns where he will watch and listen, and then report back to K’del. When he is with K’del, he will sit on his shoulder, continuing to keep watch. He is very protective of his clutch sister and K’del.
